SOFT SKILLS........
A must for any prospective job hunter ...
A must for any prospective job hunter ...
Dear students....I am creating this blog to help you understand the importance of " soft skills " in getting your dream job. It will also have blogs related to many aspects which will help you or guide you to do well in Campus drives.
The matter and ideas I present here may not be entirely mine, but picked from some books, news paper articles and and I am highly indebted to the respect authors and quote the source with authors name wherever possible.
Most of the Engineering students think that...the Technical skills and the job related skills which they acquire from their respective institutions are enough to get a job of their liking. But its not the case. With globalization and changed business practices ( with traditional style of leadership becoming out of fashion ) with cut throat competitions, the companies or your prospective employers will look some thing beyond the technical skills and job related skills in you .
Your grades and your academic records can only take you to the door step of a recruitment drive (Campus or Off Campus ). But how do you fare in these recruitment drives depends on your soft skills also.
Basically an organization which is looking for a dynamic candidate who can face the day to day challenges of work place will conduct following tests...
1. Aptitude Test - To check your IQ
2. Technical Test / Technical interview - To check your technical skills about your subject/branch
3. Group discussion test (GD) - To check your communication skills and your ability to lead the team, your ability to work as a team member.
4. HR-Interview : Again to check your communication skills , your body language, your attitude, your willingness to work according to company policy and also to know your expected salary.
Now you can understand that all your technical skills will help you to clear only Technical test or Technical interview. Off course its the most important part without which you will not be selected.
Soft-skills are basically people skills or precisely people managing skills or some times leadership skills. They play an important part for the success of an organization particularly those deal with customers face to face. And most of the IT organizations function this way. in which many professionals and subject experts directly deal with their clients on regular basis. Here the employees will become the brand ambassadors of the company and the success of such an organization depends on how you deal with your customer , lure them to do business with you, understand their needs and give them the needed solution. If customer is happy, more more business to your organization and your employer will be happy and finally you will be happy as you will get a part of that money in the form of appraisals.
And what are these SOFT SKILLS....let us see in the next part
